Blackboard Troubles
September 27th, 2006
As most Teachers are required to use blackboard I have to go through it on daily basis. What was blackboard thinking when linking stuff together or for better words not linking and making dead ends. The front page doesn’t give the user a update view accept for announcements. The beauty of things teachers get annoyed by it as well.
Wed, Sep 27, 2006 — Button My Grades
The button “My Grades” is back!
After some dreadful clicking around, I managed to recover it.Tue, Sep 26, 2006 — Marks Exercise 1
I put the marks for Exercise 1 in the Gradebook.
Unfortunately, I deleted the button from the Machines page and I do not (yet) see how to recover it.
Perhaps this works: Click Course Tools and then My Grades.
Well this is from a computer course teacher nice going Blackboard on usability and overall usefulness.

Hi! I assume you are talking about Blackboard, the commercial software (www.blackboard.com )? We use it at the University of Nebraska for each of our four campuses.
Do you use it as a student? Or, as an instructor?
Have you ever looked at Sakai or Moodle? Sakai is a Java-based learning management system built by a group of Universities from around the world; and Moodle is a LAMP environment built by a man from Australia (I believe.) Both are very compelling alternatives to Blackboard, I believe. But, migration is always a challenge.
I read your ballroom dancing blog awhile back - I think that is cool that you are learning to dance with your girlfriend. Don’t listen to Brent’s comments on dancing. Girls like guys who dance. You don’t want to dance with *Brent* anyway, so who cares what he thinks!
Just thought I would come by and say hello! Talk to you later…Amy

Hi Amy,
Nice of you to swing by,
Yes that is the one, currently using it as student at my University ( Radboud University Nijmegen, they have forced it down from above while there are better and much cheaper solutions out their.
You know how it goes some slick dressed man/woman comes to a board member and explains why blackboard is so great and wel help the university, and that board member things woh that would be usefull without asking sub-faculties if it would help in their situation. I find the navigation the most problematic part of blackboard, but you get used to it after while or course teachers start to quite using it.
The biggest plus, easy emailing for students and teachers to other course members. No more drafting up a mail list at each start of the course.
Ballroom dancing, I won’t listen to Brent I enjoy it to much
Have you ever done ballroom dancing?

I completely understand what you are talking about when you mention the “slick dressed” men coming in and selling the board on things. Women don’t do that, though!
I think those people came to our University, as well.
Do you stay in the Guesthouse ( http://www.ru.nl/english/facilities/guesthouse/ ) on campus? It is a very beautiful campus you have. Are you in any of the student organizations? What are you studying? Next year, my daughter starts college. I would love her to attend college in Europe but I would miss her too much.
Sadly, I do not ballroom dance. But, I would very much like to learn someday. I think it would be fun. My husband loves motorcycles. Maybe next time he wants to buy a motorcycle, I can tell him that is okay IF he takes dance lessons with me.
Brent is like the other men in our country. They don’t like to dance unless they have had a great deal of brew, first!
Talk to you later. Swing by my blog sometime! Amy

That is a nice way to handle it ;), hope it works for you and trust me it isn’t same here in Holland with men. I just think it has something special and enjoy it very much.
I have visited your blog but didn’t had the time to properly browse it yet, but it will get eround to it this weekend.

Medical and Informatica! Wow! Good stuff.
No one has time to properly browse my site, so, don’t try to do that! lol I throw stuff on there all day long. You can almost see what I am doing (or not doing!) by watching my blog. If something really catches your eye — or when you know I am absolutely wrong about something, jump in and comment. I love that.
You have fun at school. Your home looks great! Talk to you later. Amy
