How did I miss this? It's my very favorite kind of conversation! Thank goodness for coComment -- I was walking through my blog comments and found you guys talking.

Brent - Did you see my blog on Berners-Lee working with MIT and University of Southampton on a new curriculum for the web that will delve into "people issues" and, of course, social networking? You might consider joining the group that is considering these issues, your insight is amazing.

Michiel - that is the real benefit, isn't it, of this world wide communication environment we find ourselves in. New friendships with people we will likely never see in person. It's way cool!

I think Brent is correct, we have a easy going communication. Mostly because we agree on many things and share the same goals/approach to problems.

I was first introduced to Brent when he wanted to join the Gallery 2 bridge project but he never did code more then 10 lines for it ;) but then again I helped him get his first steps into Joomla component writing giving Joomla! a nice Stats component and Joomlalib has grown out of 2 projects. So it's a fair deal.

Maybe even a friendship?

We do indeed have a low-drama releationship. I think the reasons for so much drama elsewhere are personality incompatibilities. Amy and I had a long discussion about ISTJ's (http://www.typelogic.com/istj.html) and their influence on open source. So many of them say "Well, if I can't interact with people in person, then I MUST be able to interact with them over the internet. AND, since I'm a smart person, I can interact with anybody who agrees with me.". That could easily explain the drama, but it's just a "Brent theory".

Please, do not go to any trouble to find out details! I am just a curious person who asks too many questions! lol...I think it is very interesting how smart people, like you and Brent, find one another and decide to collaborate from all the way across the world. Pretty cool.

I think I see, now, how you both work together. You are the "Gallery 2 Bridge" guy, having picked up an abandoned open source project and breathed new life into it. I love how that works in open source. It is amazing how good solutions, like Gallery 2 Bridge, continue even after the initial developer moves on. It is so random and yet so stable. Thing get better because new people come in with enthusiasm and a new vision.

Brent is the BSQ Stats guy and you are working with him. Then, the real partnership is your Joomlalib.

Have you followed any of the conversations on the Joomla! forums about the Ajax shared library interest? You and Brent work together with very little drama compared to some! I like that, too.

Cheers! Amy

Hi Amy,

Actually, I help a little on BSQ Stats not much, a lot of testing and commening on code and debugging but the 98% is from Brent.

Joomlalib was born out of the overlapping code pieces between both our component and ideas about what we needed for our components.
Easy configuration and logging of error messages where the first 2.
Then a smaller and better grapghing tool and it grow. We will trim it down a bit for Joomla! 1.5 and will come as Library with a additional component to edit/view/configure the Library if needed.

Gallery 2 Bridge project was picked up from a old component running around which needed a update badly and I picked up and rewritten most of component, with Joomla! 1.5 it will be rewritten again to take advantage of those user hooks, finaly!

When we meet I'm not actaully sure I have to dive into my msn/e-mail archive tonight and see what I can find.

So a follow up will be posted ;)

So, you and Brent work on BSQ Stats and Joomlalib. But, I guess I didn't quite understand that the two of you also do the Gallery 2 Bridge? Is that right?

How did you guys meet? And when?

Thanks for all you do for us! :)
